Westminster and Ealing have claimed unwanted spots at the top of a London commercial burglary table.

The boroughs come first and third respectively in a report which looked at burglary and theft related crime from commercial properties.

Boroughs less affected by the thefts appear to be more affluent areas, such as Richmond-Upon-Thames.

The City of Westminster experienced the highest number of commercial property thefts, with 4,426 between June 2016 and July 2017.

Ealing came third with 1,972 break-ins, and Hillingdon came fifth in the table with 1,829 thefts.

Completing the top 10 in ninth was Kensington and Chelsea with 1,707 and Hounslow 1,705 with one place below.

Further down the list, Brent comes 16th in the table with 1,495 crimes, while Hammersmith and Fulham is 19th on 1,411.

“It is vital that all security measured are assessed regularly.

“Burglars are often opportunistic and seek to find accessible points to a building - from an insecure door to poorly glazed windows.

“Those who consider themselves less vulnerable with lower value stock are in fact more susceptible as they go to very little lengths to protect their building, therefore making themselves east targets.”
