Planning permission has been granted for a revamped cinema to be built in King’s Road, Chelsea .

Cadogan Estate’s plans were given the green light by Kensington and Chelsea planners on October 13, 12 months after an earlier scheme had been rejected.

Planning approval for the site on 196-222 King’s Road, on the junction with Chelsea Manor Street will see a 400-seat Curzon cinema with two additional smaller screens, bringing a total of 580 seats.

The historic facade of the existing building will be retained, and a new larger pub will replace the current one on site.

It will also include new retail and office space, 47 new homes built around two courtyards , and a green roof above Waitrose – replacing the roof top servicing that had been previously proposed.

The plans follow consultation with councillors and the local community following the planning refusal in 2014 .

Hugh Seaborn, chief executive of Cadogan Estates, said: “We look forward to bringing forward the new, accessible cinema with a main auditorium of 400 seats, a new pub on King’s Road for local communities to enjoy, and high quality shops and homes, within a scheme that respects the heritage and will enhance the special character of its surroundings.”

A pleased Philip Knatchbull, chief executive of Curzon World, said: “This application offers 276 seats more than the previous scheme and the screen size in the main auditorium is over 25% larger.

"On top of this the new layout will offer an improved quality of experience to cinema customers including food and drink facilities, the viewing experience and accessibility.”
