Firefighters dealt with a fire in the basement of a shop on Porchester Road in Bayswater on Sunday afternoon (May 22).

London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the fire at 5.39pm and reported that the fire damaged part of the basement and there was heavy smoke logging throughout the building.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Paddington , Kensington and North Kensington fire stations attended the scene.

Three people left the shop before the arrival of the fire brigade. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus assisted one further person to safety.

Two more people were able to escape from the flats above. No one was reported to have suffered any injuries.

The fire was under control by 7.15pm.

The cause of the fire in under investigation.

Last week, LFB issued a warning about faulty white goods as it revealed there had been a number of fires caused by appliances like tumble dryers .

Eight people also escaped from a fire in a launderette in Maida Vale at the end of April.
