A man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman - after he allegedly tried to get away in a car, colliding with a police officer.

Police officers on patrol in Rayners Lane came across a woman with facial injuries in Warden Avenue, at around 9.40pm on Tuesday (October 24).

But when they tried to speak to a man in a car nearby, he allegedly attempted to drive off, colliding with an officer at the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The officer sustained a minor leg injury, and did not require hospital treatment.

"CS spray was used, and the man was detained and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, assaulting a police officer and actual bodily harm."
