Sewage smells have been filling the platform at Ealing Broadway rail station for four weeks, commuters say.
Nigel Hill, 69, uses the station all the time and described the problem as a tidal wave of sewage running from West Ealing, stretching about 30 yards and reaching platform three at Ealing Broadway going westbound.
The retired former police officer, who lives in West Ealing, said: "It smells of raw sewage. I think it’s an absolute scandal. I use the station every day and it is actually getting worse. The station master told me they have been trying to get Network Rail to solve the problem.”
Will Olivier, 27, a commuter from Hammersmith, said he was at the station last weekend getting the train to Slough. He said: “It absolutely stank of faeces. It was the worst thing I have ever smelt. It made me feel sick it was so horrible.”
@DrAyshaRaza added on Twitter: “Was there quite strongly on Thursday too.”
A spokesperson from Network Rail, who own the station, said: “I can confirm that we’re aware of the issue and are working hard to resolve it. Availability to access the track has been limited to date, however we hope to carry out the necessary work from this coming weekend to rectify the issue.”
