Wembley stadium is set to be lit up purple to mark the death of music king Prince for the next few days.

Gable screens outside the arena will be paying tribute the American music sensation who passed away this week at the age of 57.

The Arena hosts a Little Mix concert tonight but tributes to Prince are still set to go ahead.

The prolific musician had been making music since the 1970's and performed in London many times over his career.

Prince's first official tour date outside of the United States was on 12 August 1986 at Wembley Arena in London.

Prince has performed at Wembley Arena 35 times, from 1986 to 1998. During his NUDE tour, Prince performed at the Wembley Arena 16 times in June, July and August 1990.

He also once performed at the old Wembley Stadium during his The Act II tour in 1993. Before this, in 1992, he had done 8 nights at Earl's Court for his Diamond & Pearls Tour, performing there again in 1997 during the Brit Awards.

Of the 72 official gigs he performed in London, 44 were in West London, whilst he was even more popular for partying with his devoted fans across the city into the wee hours of the morning.

We spoke to some of the people lucky enough to have seen him perform live at his Wembley shows:

John Drury, the general manager of the SSE Arena as it is known today recalls his first day working at the venue fondly.

"It was during the 1990 NUDE tour and that weekend Prince wasn't the only musical phenomenon in the building.

"Rock legends The Rolling Stones were in the audience to hear Prince perform.

"I couldn't have asked for a better start to my career" said John.
