The before and after photos of pubs around Heston , Hounslow and Southall were taken by a local resident keen to record the changing face of her neighbourhood.

As is often the way, all the inns on which last orders were called have now been turned into or are in the process of becoming shops, flats or a combination of the two.

The woman who captured them for posterity did not want to give her full name, but she had her own theories about why so many had closed.

As well as the increasing commercial values of the premises, she ventured there are now more tee-totallers living in the area and people work much harder these days, leaving little opportunity for lunchtime drinking.

Earlier this year, the owner of the Windsor Castle pub, in Hounslow, applied to demolish the existing building and replace it with flats, shops and a new pub.

Last year, punters who were concerned about the future of the award-winning Red Lion pub in Isleworth banded together to get it registered as a protected "asset of community value" .
