A project manager from Fulham has made it through to the finals of MasterChef.

Jack Layer impressed a panel of fearsome restaurant critics in the semi-final of the hit BBC One show on April 29.

The 27-year-old will be joined by four other contestants in finals week, which will be screened on TV on May 2 (tonight) 4, 5 and 6.

Jack grew up in Oxfordshire before studying at the University of Brighton and moving to London in 2012. He has been living in Fulham for the past two years.

The youngest of the five finalists, he has dazzled judges and viewers with his cooking so far, including a deconstructed coriander cheesecake that judge Gregg Wallace described as “breathtakingly brilliant”.

In the semi final he cooked guinea fowl for critics Charles Campion, Tracy MacLeod, Jay Rayner and William Sitwell. He said during the show: “Cooking for four critics is incredibly nerve-wracking. I have tremendous respect for their opinion and don’t want to let them down.”

On progressing further, he added: “I feel ecstatic to have reached the finals and so relieved all the hard work’s paid off. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I can’t wait to see it through as far as I can.”

However, Jack cannot boast being the first man from Fulham to reach this stage of the popular show. In 2012 Andrew Kojima also made it to the MasterChef finals too .

And catering boss and Harrow chef Luciana Berry made it all the through to the semi-finals stage of MasterChef: The Professionals in 2014.

MasterChef: The Final Week is on BBC One tonight at 8.30pm, May 4 at 9pm, May 5 at 8pm and May 6 at 8.30pm.
