A Hillingdon councillor has aired his delight at news a Primark store is set to open in Uxbridge in time for Christmas, saying it will concrete the town centre as a key shopping destination in west London.

The discount clothes store is set to open in The Pavilions shopping centre in Uxbridge town centre by the end of the year and the store has been welcomed by residents and councillors.

It is also set to create 144 new jobs and will join Marks and Spencers, TK Maxx, Wilkinson's and Tesco at the major retailers in the shopping centre.

'A great coup'

Hillingdon Council's cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr Douglas Mills, said: “Primark's arrival is a great coup for the local economy.

“Uxbridge is going through a complete transformation in the next few years that will further cement its reputation as an attractive and convenient west London shopping destination.

“Such progress shows that Hillingdon is working very well in attracting high quality businesses, bringing more jobs for local people.”

Uxbridge town centre is currently undergoing a number of renovation projects including revamps of the Cedars and Grainges multi-storey car parks.

Funding has also been secured for £2million worth of investments in the high street from the London Regeneration Fund.

Two floors and two doors

The new Primark will be across two floors and will feature entrances from the High Street and Chequers Square.

Asset manager Simon Usher from LaSalle Investment Management, a company that worked with Hillingdon Council to bring Primark to Hillingon, said: “This new Primark store will add significant vibrancy to the Chequers Square area of The Pavilions and complements the existing retail mix.

“The investment is reflective of our commitment to Uxbridge and esnuring The Pavilions remains a key shopping destination within the town.”
