Jalwant Singh Aullakh was found dead in Hospital Road, Hounslow, last November, but police were initially unable to confirm his identity.
Detectives appealed for the public's help, issuing an e-fit , and a relative came forward to identify the 40-year-old, of no fixed address.
Detective Constable John Cahill, of Hounslow CID, said: "I'd like to thank all the media that carried our appeals - and especially the Evening Standard and getwestlondon ."
'Family now able to grieve untimely departure'
He added: "With this assistance, we were able to confirm the identity of deceased and to allow his family to grieve his untimely departure."
Mr Aullakh and another man were found unconscious by a member of the public on November 12 2015, at around 10pm.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man, aged 49, was treated at a west London hospital but left before police could question him.
Police said a post-mortem showed Mr Aullakh had died of natural causes, and his death was not suspicious.
