This is the terrifying knife seized by police after a 12-year-old pupil took it into an Ealing school saying it was a present for his dad.

Ealing Metropolitan Police Service (Ealing MPS) said a Year 7 pupil brought the weapon into the secondary school, which officers are not naming, to "show his friend".

But the 17 centimetre knife, with a curved blade measuring nine centimetres, was spotted by a fellow pupil in Year 11 who told his parents.

They alerted the school and teachers conducted a search, before contacting the pupil's parents and asking them to attend the school for a meeting, police said.

It emerged the knife had been purchased as a gift for the child's dad, before it was confiscated and given to police leading to an investigation by the Safer Schools Team, which is still ongoing.

Safer Schools sergeant, Adam Pierce, said: "Carrying a knife for any reason is dangerous and we praise the student who came forward to inform his parents and teachers.

"We would strongly advise anyone who sees another student with a knife they should inform a teacher immediately, you could be saving someone’s life.

"While the circumstances around this incident are relatively benign it highlights the need for every parent to have a discussion with their children about the dangers of carrying a knife."

The Ealing Safer Schools Team is a unit of 11 police officers, who work with partners in education and local government.

These officers will regularly deliver talks to pupils in primary and secondary schools, offering children and young people the chance to seek advice on staying safe.

The seizure of the knife follows a series of knife related incidents in west London this year.

On Saturday (February 4), a 21-year-old was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the head in East Lane, Wembley.
