A man was “violently punched” for no reason while he travelled on a District line Tube train in Hounslow, police have said.

They have released images of a person they wish to speak to in connection to the unprovoked attack, which happened on the evening of October 19.

The suspect had boarded the a train at Stamford Brook at about 8.40pm and sat down briefly before jumping up and approaching a fellow passenger, a 45-year-old man, and punching him.

He then returned to his seat before getting off the train at Turnham Green.

Investigating officer PC Nick Dipper, from British Transport Police (BTP) , said: “This was an unprovoked assault witnessed by other passengers, who went to the victim’s aid while the offender calmly returned to his seat. The offender left the Tube train at Turnham Green station.

“I am keen to speak to the man in the CCTV images as I believe he has vital information that would help with the investigation. Everyone has the right to travel on the railway network without fear or intimidation.”
