A man was helped down from a bridge in Northolt by police yesterday afternoon (Wednesday March 15).

British Transport Police called Ealing police to reports of a train driver saw a man on a bridge between Carlisle Road and Belvue Road at 2.05pm.

Officers arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and the male in his 20s voluntarily talked to police.

He was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and taken to a west London hospital for assessment.

PC Anish Sharma of Dormers Wells Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “The MPS treats all calls to those in mental health crisis seriously.

"We recognise the need to act quickly and support individuals in their time of need.

"We always look at taking the least restrictive option to assist individuals in crisis, working in partnership with Mental Health services and local authority to get the individual to the point of assessment and access to the most appropriate care for their needs.”

The police said anyone who needs help with mental health issues can contact The Samaritans on 116 123, West London Mental Health Trust on 0300 123 4244 or Mind on 0300 123 3392 for support and advice.
