Police divers were continuing the search of the River Brent this afternoon in the effort to find missing Alice Gross.

A specialist unit from Devon and Cornwall Police were helping Ealing officers search the river in the secluded area near Tumpers Way, Hanwell. Police have already appealed for three cyclists passing the Trumpers Way canal bridge to come forward.

This morning detectives revealed the contents of Alice's bag , found in undergrowth nearby on September 2. It concluded a pair of Vans trainers and underwear.

Detective chief inspector Andy Chalmers, who is leading the investigation, appealed to anyone who may have seen the bag and anyone who may know the whereabouts of her white iPhone which is decorated with marker pen.

Residents have rallied to help keep Alice in people's minds by distributing yellow ribbons - smaller ones to wear and larger ones to attach to lamp posts and trees.

One of the campaigners, Lorraine Jones of Memory Lane florists in Greenford Avenue, Hanwell said: "I'm a mother of two daughters and a son and the very thought that this could happen to one of them makes my stomach turn. I cannot even imagine what Alice's family are going through it is too horrendous to comprehend. The yellow ribbon campaign is the very least we can do."
