Met Police officers taking part in a campaign launched to tackle anti-social street drinking have recovered two knives from the Cowgate Estate in Greenford.

Greenford Broadway cops took to Twitter to share an image of the knives they picked up during Operation Bottletop, a campaign running since Thursday (May 4).

Police said they found the two black knives Friday evening, and returned to the area following comments from "concerned residents".

Operation Bottletop, first launched in the summer of 2015 , is a clampdown initiative designed to tackle anti-social outdoor drinking and its associated behaviour.

The patrol overs Greenford, Northolt and Perivale and runs on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday evenings throughout the summer months.

In 2014 anti-social behaviour linked to street drinking was so bad there were even some reports of people defecating in parks.

But following the launch of the crackdown, complaints to police plummeted.

The discovery comes on the same day that a man was stabbed following an "incident" at a barbershop in Harlesden. He died at hospital later that afternoon.

And six teenagers were arrested after a 17-year-old boy was found with a stab wound on Thursday.

Knife crime in the capital is rocketing, and calls have been made for more action to be taken at government level after a number of stabbings have plagued west London.

Two boys have been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old in Northolt, and a man was stabbed to death in Southall in March.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0208 358 0200, via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
