A naked shoplifter was arrested by officers in Paddington Station, police say.

It happened at the WH Smith store just before 7.30pm on Thursday (October 5).

British Transport Police (BTP) attended and arrested the male for shop lifting and assault.

Officers also revealed he was wanted on a warrant for a sexual offence.

A tweet from the Paddington branch of the BTP read: “Arrest at Paddington of a naked man. Arrested for Assault, shoplifting and also wanted on warrant for a sexual offence.”

Replying to comments left on the tweet, Paddington BTP adds: “Not the best disguise, he did stand out for all the wrong reasons!”

A BTP spokesman said officers were called to a disturbance at the shop at 7.24pm and arrested a 52-year-old man, who remains in custody.

He said it the suspect had removed items of clothing but did not believe he was completely undressed.

Inquiries are continuing.
