Police want to trace this man after a women was violently assaulted in a ‘nasty attack’ at a Tube station on New Year’s Day .

The victim, aged just 19, suffered a broken nose and cuts as a result of the unprovoked attack, at Covent Garden Underground station , at around 12.50am.

She was approached by a man who punched her twice in the face, causing her to fall over and smash her head. The teenager got to her feet but was set upon by the assailant again.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries, which also included a cut to the back of her head.

British Transport Police have now released CCTV images of a man they say can assist their investigation.

Investigating officer, Det Con Stephen Allen, said: “This was a nasty, unprovoked attack against a woman at a Tube station.

“The offender arrived by train before the assault and then left by train afterwards.

“I’d like to speak to the man shown in the CCTV images as he may have information which could help the investigation. If you recognise please get in touch either by phone or text as soon as possible.”
