A Pinner hairdresser has been named British Hairdresser of the year at an annual award ceremony.

Darren Ambrose, director of the D&J Ambrose salon in Pinner was named British Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards on Monday (November 23).

The category is hugely coveted by all in the industry with only eight hairdressers being nominated each year.

Darren is described as an innovative session stylist who can meet any hair brief, no matter how commercial or avant-garde.

He’s headed up the hair team on Fashion Week shows including Gyunel and PPQ as well as working on worldwide campaigns for the likes of Wella Professionals and P&G.

Executive Director of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr said, “British hairdressing is regarded as the best in the world.

“We are leaders in this international industry and the British Hairdressing Awards recognise this talent. Each year the creativity and passion put into the entries is outstanding and the atmosphere in the Great Room, and the spirit of this industry as a whole, comes together to produce a very special evening.”

Host David Walliams presented the event and X Factor 2014 winner Ben Haenow performed a special set for the audience before the eight British Hairdresser of the year nominees presented their models.

Speaking of his win, Darren Ambrose said: “It was a mind-blowing experience when my name was called out.

“It’s a massive honour to represent the country alongside all the other previous British champions who include some of my all time icons.

“I’ll utilise this incredible accolade for pushing the reputation of British hairdressing forward, these awards are an acknowledgement of what this industry has to offer and what an amazing career choice it is.

“First and foremost I’m just going to keep enjoying what I love to do – I’m so grateful for this career.”
