A police cordon remained in place today after a body was found in a river in Uxbridge .

A resident who lives near Frays River told getwestlondon how he found out a man had been discovered dead after speaking with police on Tuesday morning (January 3).

The Bridge Road resident, who asked not to be named, said he was on his way to buy a paper when he spotted police officers in Cowley Road.

He later learned that police had discovered the body of a man in the river just before 8am.

Police were called to the river shortly before 8am

The resident said: “I came across to get a paper and I was talking to the police.

“[They said] they found a body in the river.

“They put divers in the river. They've taken the body away now.

“The footpath that runs along to Cowley Mill Road is closed.”

Officers were called to the scene outside Whitehall School near Frays River in Cowley Road at around 7.53am after reports there was a body in the river.

The man's death is currently being treated as unexplained

Police recovered the body of a man and his death is being treated as unexplained.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to Cowley Road, Uxbridge at 7.53am on Tuesday, January 3 to reports of a body in a river.

“Officers attended and recovered the body of a man.

“The death is being treated as unexplained.”

Whitehall School was closed on Tuesday for teacher training.

The footpath remained closed and officers were on the scene into Tuesday afternoon.

A post-mortem is due to take place in due course and no arrests have currently been made.
