A Piccadilly line strike by nearly 400 union drivers will cause disruption for Londoners this evening and tomorrow - so make sure you're prepared.

In the first in a series of three 24-hour strikes on the line , Piccadilly line services will be affected from 9pm on Wednesday (March 23) until 9pm on Thursday (March 24).

RMT, the union organising the strike, say that the industrial action is due to claims of bullying and harassment of London Underground staff.

Travel advice

Transport for London say that they will be able to keep Piccadilly line services running until around 10.30pm, advising customers to make sure their journey is completed by this time.

They have warned that interchange stations across the line, such as Finsbury Park, Green Park and King's Cross St. Pancras stations will be much busier than usual thanks to the strike action.

If you're travelling between Heathrow Airport and central London during this strike, you will be able to use Heathrow Connect and Heathrow Express to and from Paddington station.

While services on other Tube lines will run as normal, they are expected to be much busier than usual, with passengers urged to take alternative routes if possible.

Roads in west London are also expected to be busy.

'Indefensible strike'

Transport for London say that extra buses will be provided to help Londoners get around during the strike.

The Piccadilly line is expected to run a Saturday service on Friday (March 25) as part of the Easter Bank Holiday arrangements .

Pat Hansberry, operations director for London Underground, said: “Our customers are advised to check our real-time travel tools, should the planned strike go ahead on the Piccadilly line from late tonight.

“This indefensible strike has been called to back drivers who refused to drive Piccadilly line trains on their shifts - without good reason - resulting in delays to our customers.

“That said, we remain available for talks and are keen for the union leaderships to engage with us, so that Londoners aren't subjected to unnecessary disruption.”

Two more 24-hour Piccadilly line strikes are pencilled in to go-ahead in the space of one week, with one from midnight on Tuesday (April 19) and the other from midnight on Thursday (April 21).

Rail passengers are urged to allow more time for their journeys and to check before they travel at the dedicated Tube Strike page .
