Dozens of firefighters are attending the scene of a fire in the basement of a hotel in Piccadilly.

London Fire Brigade were called to the scene at just after 11.15am on March 27 to reports of a fire in the basement of a nine storey hotel.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters are on the scene and guests and hotel staff members have been evacuated.

Small rubbish fire cause of smoke in basement

London Fire Brigade were called to Le Meridien Piccadilly hotel at 11.16am to reports of smoke in the basement.

Around 150 guests and 50 staff members were evacuated before fire crews arrived.

35 firefighters and six fire engines attended and a small rubbish fire was found in a light well adjacent to the hotel’s basement.

Earlier lane closures on the A4 in Piccadilly have now cleared.

Le Meridien Piccadilly is looking for temporary shelter for guests

A spokesman from Le Meridien Piccadilly said:

Le Méridien Piccadilly has been evacuated for precautionary measures due to a small fire in the Boiler Room.


The hotel team is working diligently with the local authorities to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and allow guests to return to their rooms.


In the meantime, for the safety and comfort of our guests, we are working with a local hotel partner to provide temporary shelter.


We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers have been called to reports of a smoke issuing at a hotel on Piccadilly.


Crews are currently investigating reports of smoke in the basement of the hotel.


Approximately 150 hotel guests and 50 members of staff were evacuated before the arrival of the Brigade.


The Brigade was called at 11.16.
