The photo album of a sailor, who joined the Navy aged just 15 when the Second World War broke out, is due to go under the hammer.

Petty Officer Kenneth Byrne's photos and notes from his 23 years of service provide a fascinating insight into life at sea during and after the war.

They include a snap taken from HMS Prince of Wales, which was sunk three days after the attack on Pearl Harbour and from which he was one of just 17 survivors.

His album is among a vast range of military memorabilia up for grabs at Chiswick Auctions on Tuesday (March 3).

Other highlights include a 'time capsule' relating to the extraordinary life of the late Czechoslovakian RAF pilot Ondrej Kacir.

He survived daring Second World War missions and being smuggled out of his birth country to escape communism, only to succumb to illness before reaching 40.

A letter detailing his life from his step-daughter, now aged 80, accompanies personal items including passports, military permits, and civil and military log books.

The Medals and Militaria Sale will take place at Chiswick Auctions, in Colville Road, on Tuesday (March 3) from midday.
