Burglars stole sentimental items of jewellery from a woman in her 70s after tying her up, dousing her in bleach and striking her on the head with a screwdriver.

The violent attack happened near the Harrow and Wembley border and left the victim with injuries to her head and neck and suffering from shock.

She was at her home on her own in Sudbury Court Drive at 7.30pm on October 15 when she answered a knock at the door to three men asking after a man named "O’Brien", to which the woman said they had called at the wrong address.

They left but 10 minutes later the suspects returned and forced their way into the house tying up the victim and pouring bleach over her, as they struck her over the head with a screwdriver, police have said.

The suspects stole the victim’s wedding and engagement rings, as well as a quantity of cash.

All three suspects are described as white, slim and were wearing black clothing.

One is described as being approximately 5ft 3ins tall and the other two approximately 5ft 8ins tall.

They are believed to be of eastern European descent according to the police.

Detective constable John Gillespie of Brent CID said: “This was a cowardly and shocking burglary on a vulnerable elderly woman and I would appeal for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in Sudbury Court Drive to come forward and help us with our enquiries.

“It is a terrible thing to happen in the place where you should feel most safe and the victim has lost items of high sentimental value.”

Police say the victim’s injuries are not serious.
