A Brentford pensioner has been jailed after he "abused his position of trust" and sexually assaulted elderly and vulnerable women he delivered medication to.

John Muttitt, of Walnut Tree Road, Brentford was sentenced to 18 months in jail at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday (May 26) for two counts of sexual assault.

The counts relate to two separate assaults on elderly women in 2013 and 2015.

Both of the victims suffer with mobility issues.

The 78-year-old was found guilty of the offences on Tuesday April 11 at the same court.

'Abused his position of trust'

PC Ben Lawrence-Smith said: "Muttitt took advantage of the fact that these victims were elderly, vulnerable, and often living alone.

"Due to having mobility issues the victims used a pharmacy delivery service as a way of obtaining their medication without difficulty and Muttitt abused his position of trust."

The jury heard Muttitt was a self-employed delivery driver for a local pharmacy and would deliver medication to patients at their homes and care homes in the Hounslow and Isleworth area.

He was advised not to enter properties and not to provide any medical advice or comment on any medical queries.

One victim had an arrangement with Muttitt to deliver her medication and he was provided with a key code to access the house.

Muttitt entered the victim's house and inappropriately touched her while pretending to carry out a medical examination - despite not having any experience or relevant qualifications.

The incident was reported to the police in July 2013 by the daughter of the victim.

Officers carried out enquiries about the incident with the pharmacy Muttitt worked for and he was arrested and interviewed.

He admitted to touching the woman when checking her heart but denied allegations of sexual touching and Muttitt was released owing to a lack of evidence.

Two further incidents with almost identical circumstances were reported to police in August 2015.

Second victim confided in her carer

Muttitt continued to work for the pharmacy and had been delivering medicine to the second victim for a number of months.

He would often enter her house and talk for up to 30 minutes.

The victim offered Muttitt into her home on two occasions and he inappropriately touched her and took advantage of her vulnerability.

The victim reported the incidents after confiding in her carer and officers arrested Muttitt for sexual touching.

He was charged with four counts of sexual touching on July 16 2016.

More victims may be out there

Muttitt was found not guilty of an offence involving a third allegation and the jury failed to reach a verdict on a second offence involving the second victim in 2015.

Officers have carried out enquires with other women Muttitt delivered medication to, however no further allegations have been made to police.

PC Lawrence-Smith added: "There may very well be other victims who have yet to come forward.

"We know that Muttitt was delivering medication to patients in the Hounslow area between 2010 and 2015 and would urge anyone who has yet to come forward to do so."
