A pensioner has died following a collision with a moped in Westminster.

The 76-year-old male pedestrian was crossing the road on Mount Street near Scott's restaurant in Mayfair on Friday (January 27) evening.

He had sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where he later died, the Metropolitan Police said.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at around 11.25pm to reports of a moped in collision with a pedestrian.

The man was pronounced dead at 12.23am.

Next of kin have been informed.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Alperton Traffic Garage are investigating.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may seen the crash or have information surrounding the incident.

The moped stopped at the scene and the rider has not been arrested.

Police enquiries continue.
