A man has died four days after being hit by a car that failed to stop in Harrow.

A car was in collision with a pedestrian in Gladstone Way, near the junction with Palmerston Road, at around 11.45pm on Saturday (August 5), the Metropolitan Police said.

The male pedestrian, who has been named as 63-year-old Rajesh Kumar Naik of Harrow, was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service where he died a few days later on Tuesday (August 8).

The victim's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be held in due course.

Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne, investigating from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I'm appealing for anyone who saw the collision in Gladstone Way that night to get in contact with police.

"Our investigation has so far established that police were called to a fight between two groups of youths shortly before the collision.

"It is possible that this is linked to the collision that killed Mr Naik due to the timing and proximity.

"If anyone saw this fight or a brown Mercedes car driving away from Gladstone Way then please get in touch with us."

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Monday (August 7) on suspicion of failing to stop after a collision and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has since been released under investigation.
