A police investigation has been launched after a man remains in a "critical" condition in hospital three days after a hit and run in Stonebridge.

The 65-year-old pedestrian was hit by a motorcycle outside the popular cafe for bikers, Ace Cafe, in the A406 North Circular Road, but the rider failed to stop at the scene, the police said.

The man who is seriously injured is described as being in a "critical but stable condition" following the collision on Sunday (August 13) evening.

Detectives from the Roads and Transport unit are appealing for witnesses and information n the days after the fail to stop collision.

The Metropolitan Police said it was called to reports of a collision at 9.52pm.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service took the man to a central London hospital.

His next of kin are aware.

An investigation is under way by officers from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and causing serious injury by dangerous driving on Monday (August 14).

He was taken to a Hertfordshire police station and later released under investigation.

Enquiries to locate the motorcycle involved in the incident are ongoing, police said.
