Parents angered by the potential closure of youth centres in Hounslow are taking action to make their voices heard.

Dozens of parents, children and members of the community will descend on the Civic Centre in Lampton Road to protest against Hounslow council's plans to close down at least three centres for young people in the borough.

The "Save Hounslow's Youth Centres" protest will be held on Tuesday (February 21) from 6.30pm.

The council launched a public consultation last month as part of £650,000 planned cuts which includes £212,000 less for its budget on youth services.

The changes propose five main youth service projects affecting the most vulnerable young people's groups will remain, while three youth centres face closure.

These are Hounslow Youth Centre, Hogarth Youth Centre in Chiswick and Hanworth Youth Centre.

Sarah Harvey told getwestlondon : "A lot of the parents that attended the public consultation at Hogarth Youth Centre left quite frustrated and angry at how we had been treated and feeling that our thoughts had not been heard or listened to.

"We have come together and linked with other parents, children and members of the community to organise a protest that will happen outside the Civic Centre on Lampton Road on Tuesday (February 21) at 6.30pm to try to make the council change its mind and keep the valuable youth centres open."

Hounslow Council urged people to remember that no firm decisions have yet been made as the consultation is still open.

Councillor Richard Foote, cabinet member for communities at Hounslow Council, previously said:“No decisions have been made and that is why we are carrying out the consultation as it is important we have feedback and the views from our residents, so that we can ensure that those most in need receive our support and also a service that meets their needs."

The protest will start at 6.30pm until 8pm and anyone who wants to can take part.
