Paintings capturing the life of Chelsea Pensioners have been displayed at an exhibition.

Charlotte Partridge has been working as an artist in residence at the Royal Hospital Chelsea for the past year, and showed off her work at the hospital’s State Apartments on November 17 and 18.

The paintings encapsulate the day-to-day lives of Chelsea Pensioners within their historic home and surroundings, with subjects seen enjoying a pint in a pub or visiting King’s Road.

Work on show will also include paintings of the gardens, interiors of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and external compositions of the Sir Christopher Wren designed buildings.

The artist said: “It has been an honour to paint the Chelsea Pensioners over the past year. I have completed 12 portraits of the pensioners who were all gracious sitters. The grandeur of the buildings along with the beautiful grounds provided me with plenty of inspiration and I completely fell in love with the place.”
