Transport for London (TfL) has announced a further six Tube stations will be going step free as part of a drive to improve accessibility on the London Underground.

Osterley is one of the six stations to be granted the step free access, joining Harrow-on-the-Hill which was confirmed last year.

It is part of the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan's £200m boost to make travelling on the London Underground more accessible over the next five years.

As well as Osterley, the other stations set to benefit from step free access are Amersham, Buckhurst Hill, Cockfosters, Mill Hill East and South Woodford, which together see 15.5million journeys every year.

Mr Khan said: "It's absolutely vital that we make our transport network accessible to all, and by investing more in step-free access than ever before, we're doing what we can to help people right across the capital."

It is the biggest investment in the Tube's 153 year history and will bring the total number of step free underground stations to more than 100, meaning more than 40% of the stations will offer the improved access.

Mark Wild, managing director of London Underground, said: "Improving accessibility across London to enable all Londoners and visitors to the city to travel spontaneously and independently is one of our top priorities.

"We have made good progress but we're determined to accelerate the pace so that this vision becomes a reality for the millions of people who use our network every day."

According to TfL, not only will it benefit elderly and disabled people, but it will also make life easier for parents and carers with children and prams.

Other stations such as Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road and Victoria are set to become step free this year and the opening of the Elizabeth line in two years time will be ground breaking in Tube accessibility, with every station offering step free access.

Step free access at Osterley station is set to be complete by 2020.
