Passing police detectives have been praised for preventing a person on the edge of Hammersmith Bridge from falling.

The detectives were passing on the bridge, which connects Hammersmith to Barnes, when they spotted a woman standing close to its edge on Tuesday (March 7) at around 2.30pm.

They managed to take hold of her to prevent her from falling and called for assistance.

More officers, including two from Response Team D at Hammersmith and Fulham Police, attended and were able to pull her to safety.

Richard Berns, inspector for Response Team D at Hammersmith and Fulham, said: “The officers did a fantastic job and if they had not happened to have been passing, it may have ended very tragically.”
