North Harrow station has reopened after a torrential downpour led to its closure on Wednesday evening (June 8).

The station, in Station Road, Harrow , was open to passengers again on Thursday morning (June 9) after several feet of water gushed into the station in from surrounding streets as the heavens opened.

It followed weather warnings being issued for parts of west London earlier on Wednesday.

There were also flooding problems in Eastcote, and bus diversions in Ruislip and Wembley .

All this occurred despite London enjoying warm temperatures this week, making it even hotter then the south of France , albeit rather wetter.

Shop and business owners at the station exchanged pictures on social media of the lake that formed outside their doors, also engulfing the ticket barriers for the train station.

It was the second day in succession that heavy rain caused havoc in the capital, with the London Fire Brigade reporting a "mad half hour" in which it received hundreds of emergency calls due to flooding and other incidents, mainly in south London around the Croydon area.

A house was also set alight after being struck by lightning in Hackney, while on Wednesday 32 calls were taken between 2pm and 4pm across south west London.
