Overnight and weekend construction work on Hayes and Harlington Station is due to start next month as part of the Crossrail improvements being made to the line.

Upgrades and installations will take place to electrical and communication work on the platforms and according to Network Rail weekend and night-time working is necessary for safety and to avoid disruption to services.

Most of the 'noisy' work will be carried out through September and October with some construction continuing into December.

Neighbours were notified of the works in a letter from Crossrail's Community Relations Executive Gregory Clark.

'Safe working environment'

In the letter, Mr Clark said: “In order to achieve a safe working environment and minimise disruption to the operation of the railway, certain work must take place during weekends and nights.

“Our contractor has worked closely with London Borough of Hillingdon to secure appropriate consents for the works proposed.

“We apologise for any disruption this work may cause and will endeavour to minimise the impact on local residents and station users.”

Crossrail is a £14.7bn scheme linking Reading in Berkshire to London and Essex through tunnels under the capital.

The service is expected to start running in 2017 and will be completely open by December 2019.

Work at Hayes and Harlington over the coming months will include tarmacking and widening platforms.
