A boy with a deteriorating disability needs your help to raise £6,000 for a new set of wheels to get him back his independence.

Tyler Walker of Chiswick was diagnosed at the age of five with a condition called Friedreichs Ataxia (FRDA) which causes progressive damage to the central nervous system with symptoms such as difficulty with balance, impaired coordination of legs or arms and slurred speech (dysarthria).

The brave nine-year-old who is battling with the incurable rare disease has had a number of problems associated with the condition including cardiomyopathy of his heart and scoliosis.

The youngster was recently fitted for a life-changing electric wheelchair to suit all his needs thanks to a visit from a company in Epsom, organised by Julia Romp of Jaden Cornelious Fundraising (JCF) West London team who met the youngster and his family at an event to raise awareness for Ataxia last month in Isleworth.

However the wheelchair comes at a hefty price and mum Kelly Walker along with JCF are appealing to the kind-hearted public for their donations to help raise the funds so Tyler can get on with everyday life with a bit more ease.

Ms Walker, 26, of Chiswick said: “He is a very independent boy and wants to do things for himself.

“He doesn’t like having to be pushed around in his wheelchair. With the new electric wheelchair he would have so much more independence and it would make him happier for him to be able to go where he wants.”

Ms Walker explained due to Tyler’s condition with his current self propel wheelchair he can only go down the road for about 30 seconds before he gets tired.

Ms Romp added: “Tyler’s muscles are wasting away very quickly and he struggles to use his manual wheelchair, meaning he relies on his mum to push him around.

“It was incredibly moving to see the joy on his face when he tried out the electric wheelchair, which would give him back his independence.

“This wheelchair would be life-changing for him and we’re determined to raise this money as soon as possible because it’s heartbreaking to see a family in this situation.”

Jaden Cornelious Fundraising is holding a ‘Night of Entertainment’ at Isleworth Working Men’s Club on June 4, from 7pm-midnight, to raise money for Tyler’s new wheelchair.

The evening will include Simon and Garfunkel and Michael Jackson tribute acts, as well as dancers from Alliance Dance Unit.
