Anyone who’s had to catch a train to the airport knows speed is of the essence - but it’s also the case when you have to install a new one too.

Engineers at Heathrow Airport had only a four hour window in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) to deliver a new transit train to Terminal 5.

A massive hole needed to be dug in the middle of the airfield so that the 11.5 metre long, 16 tonne, vehicle could be dropped through to the tracks below.

In total a team of 60 people were needed to coordinate the tricky operation which had to be completed before the first flights of the day arrived.

The new train has been installed on the Terminal 5 Track Transit System which links the A, B and C sections of the building.
