A new "skinny shard" proposed for Paddington could transform the London skyline to become the tallest skyscraper in west London.

The 65-storey building is part of a £1 billion overhaul of the W2 Paddington area.

Designed by Renzo Piano, the 224-metre building includes offices, apartments and a roof garden.

The Italian architect also designed one of the capital's key landmarks close to London Bridge, The Shard.

Barry Ostler from Sellar Property Group: “We are pleased to have been chosen as development manager for this exciting scheme in Paddington which we believe will make a major contribution to the area’s regeneration.

"In our view Paddington is under-served by quality residential and retail and we believe this scheme will help the area’s further rejuvenation."

Renzo Piano also said the scheme would look to ease congestion around the entrance to the Bakerloo line.

Sellar Property Group chairman Irvine Sellar said the new project would be a major catalyst “in much the same way that the Shard was for London Bridge”.

Group executive director Chris Lim of Great Western Developments, who acquired the site for £111m, said: “As a key transport hub into London, it is imperative that this innovative project reflects the dynamism of the capital and brings about a much-needed rejuvenation to Paddington to enhance the experience for residents and visitors.”
