Police have introduced a 48-hour dispersal zone to curb antisocial behaviour in Feltham town centre this weekend.

The new powers will give officers the chance to remove potential troublemakers from the area from 4pm on Friday (February 13) until Sunday (February 15).

The measures were introduced after residents and businesses complained about groups of up to 30 youths causing problems around McDonald's and the High Street, particularly during weekends.

The order will allow officers who suspect individuals or groups intent on causing trouble to members of the public to be asked to leave the area.

They can also issue an order if the behaviour of the person has or is likely to contribute to crime and disorder and the removal of the person is necessary.

Acting inspector Nigel Treacy said: "This is a measure that we find is quite effective in dealing with yobbish behaviour in the town centre.

"It gives officers the power to direct those causing ASB to disperse, and if they don’t or return later, they can be arrested."
