A new drive is under way to improve the health of Hounslow's citizens by bringing together services like stop smoking support and dietary advice.

A more integrated approach to helping people in the borough lead healthier lifestyles has been promised, following the award of a new contract.

Services to help people quit smoking, improve their diets and exercise more are among those being brought together in a new easy-to-access hub.

Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust (HRCH) has been awarded a three-year contract by Hounslow Council, starting in April 2016, to manage health and well-being services in the borough.

The new healthy lifestyle service will provide people with a host of advice, information and support from healthy lifestyle specialists via a dedicated website, phone line and face-to-face meetings.

It will also link up with other health services and leisure centres to help people reduce their risk of developing a range of conditions, including heart disease and diabetes, and to prevent social isolation.

Councillor Ed Mayne, Hounslow Council's cabinet Member for public health and leisure, said:

"The new health and wellbeing service will provide residents with the support they need to make the very simple lifestyle changes that can make a huge difference to their overall health."

HRCH said it would work with charities and voluntary groups within the Hounslow Wellbeing Consortium, led by Integrated Neurological Services (INS), to design and develop the new model.

Patricia Wright, chief executive of HRCH said: "By bringing together the existing health and wellbeing services in the borough – local people will be able to gain access to faster and more coordinated support to get all the help they need to make healthy lifestyle changes."
