Emergency services have been praised for their quick response after a car mounted a pavement and crashed into pedestrians outside the Natural History Museum.

Nine out of the 11 people injured after a car ploughed into crowds in Exhibition Road on Saturday afternoon (October 7) have been taken to hospital.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed a man is "under arrest" and said the incident was a non-terror related accident.

Prime Minister, Theresa May has tweeted her thanks to the "first responders", however she is not the only one as local residents have also praised the emergency services.

Kane Jones, manager of Byron Gloucester Road said: "I saw loads of police flying down the road, the helicopter is still here.

"It is quite normal now, it seems that someone might have just crashed onto the pavement.

"It is good to see the police act so efficiently, even if it wasn’t a big incident.

"I am confident in the police."

Another nearby restaurant worker, Adnieszka Burkowska said: "We saw some people down the road who told us they saw a lot of emergency vehicles.

"It was really busy until around 2.30pm, then it suddenly got quiet, we were wondering what had happened.

"We are not worried," she added.

Enamul Hoque was in a nearby Chinese restaurant when events unfolded.

According to the Press Association (PA), he saw people running in Exhibition Road, adding: "Then all of a sudden ... a large gathering of policemen turned up in yellow vests, just clearing up the road (telling) people to leave the restaurant, leave bags behind.

"People just seemed panicky, panicked and running, really, I don’t think anyone knew what was going on.

"There was a large contingent of policemen saying ‘go, go, run, run’."

The Mirror reported that shocked eyewitnesses described how there was a "big bang" as a vehicle "drove into people".

Damian Hackett was outside the popular tourist destination at the time and caught the moment pedestrians fled the scene on camera.

His footage which was shared on social media shows crowds running and screaming following the incident.
