A mystery Good Samaritan has been thanked for stepping in to ensure someone could pay their last respects to their dying father.

The kind-hearted stranger only gave 20p towards parking charges at West Middlesex Hospital, in Isleworth.

But that small act of generosity meant the grateful recipient was able to bid farewell to their father, who passed away that afternoon.

Writing in the letters page of the Metro, Farah, from London, said: "Thank you to the man who gave me 20p in the car park at West Middlesex Hospital last Tuesday morning when I found myself short for parking.

"Thanks to you I was able to see my father alive for the last time. He died that afternoon."

The tale has touched the hearts of those on Facebook and Twitter, where it has been doing the rounds, including staff at the hospital in Isleworth.

Sam Pannick shared the letter, writing: "Staff should see this. Everyone can make a difference."

The hospital replied "Wow. Small acts can go a long way", and Steve Palmer commented: "Not much humanity left in this world. Thank God there are a few good people still left".

However, Ron Pinnick questioned whether hospitals should be charging for parking in the first place: "Stop charging and more people will be happy," he wrote.
