MP for Brentford and Isleworth Ruth Cadbury has been accused of 'being out of touch' with residents over airport expansion.

Ms Cadbury has come under fire for organising a parliamentary debate against plans for a new runway at Heathrow Airport , despite recent polls showing many of her constituents actually back the airport's expansion bid.

Even in a recent poll of 1,000 constituents in Brentford and Isleworth carried out by Populus between July 29, 2015 and August 20, 2015, showed that 48% residents supported Heathrow expansion while just 34% opposed it.

Lateef Shattu from Chiswick said: “Ruth Cadbury is out of touch with the views of most local people when it comes to the airport.

"Heathrow is vital for the local economy and jobs in our community.

"We need a bigger and better Heathrow in order to secure jobs and investment in our area."

The criticism comes as Ms Cadbury prepares for a debate on the final report by the Airports Commission, alongside another staunch opponent of Heathrow expansion, MP for Twickenham Tania Mathias, on Thursday November 26.

However, according to the results of the Airport Commission's public consultation, only 24 of 70,591 responses were recorded as being from Brentford and Iselworth.

In July, the Commission recommended a new runway at Heathrow.

Ms Cadbury who has campaigned against expansion at the airport for almost 15 years, is concerned about noise, pollution, respite periods with Heathrow not ready to commit to a ban on night flights, as well as pressure on roads and public transport.

She said: "Expansion would mean another 300,000 people directly under a landing path who are not at present, specifically in Heston, Osterley, central Brentford and Chiswick.

"We know the negative impact continuous noise and air pollution has on our health, so why impose further problems on west London, not to mention the additional safety risk of a third runway whose approach is over such a built up area?

"When local residents realise exactly how much worse their environment will be with expansion, there will be even more opposition.

"The statement was put out by Back Heathrow, which is funded by Heathrow Airport and was set up to further Heathrow airport Ltd’s commercial interest, which supports expansion at all costs.

Pro-Heathrow expansion group, Back Heathrow, added the MP's very own local petition against Heathrow expansion which was set up a few weeks ago had only managed to gather 30 signatures.

Rob Gray, Back Heathrow campaign director, said: "Ruth Cadbury is entitled to her opinion but it is completely at odds with what many of her constituents are saying about Heathrow.

"We have thousands of supportive residents in her constituency and across west London yet Mrs Cadbury continues to campaign against their wishes."
