There has been a surge in the number of motorbike riders involved in crashes recorded in west London.

Following an analysis of road safety data, Getwestlondon can reveal the figure has risen by a fifth in the past six years.

Ealing has seen the largest increase of the eight boroughs with 281 accidents in 2015, up by 46%.

This is followed by Hounslow where there was a 40% increase in motorbike crashes, and Brent where there was a 33% increase.

Earlier this year a delivery driver was caught on camera knocking a motorcyclist off his bike in Southall.

Throughout west London, there were 1,815 motorbike accidents last year, a 9.1% increase compared to 1,663 accidents in 2014.

This is a large increase in context with the national trend where there was a slight decline of 1.8%.

Looking back over a wider period of time motorbike crashes are spiralling up in west London with 2015 figures 21.8% higher than the average number in each of the previous years.

In addition, since 2009 44 motorcyclists have died in road accidents in west London with eight of these fatalities in Hillingdon .

Across the whole of Britain 20,981 motorcyclists were injured on the roads in 2015, compared to 21,366 in 2014.

Last year 398 motorcyclists died as a result of their injuries, a 6.1% increase compared with 2014.
