A Metropolitan Police officer will face a misconduct panel this month after allegedly using force while arresting a 13-year-old girl in London.

An independent investigation was launched on October 19 last year after a complaint about the police constable's behaviour outside Wapping High School.

On October 5 2016, a 13-year-old girl was arrested outside the school in Commercial Road but was dearrested a short time afterwards.

After the arrest, footage of part of the incident recorded on a mobile phone was circulated online.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation was completed in April 2017, when it decided along with Metropolitan Police that a misconduct meeting should be scheduled.

A file was also passed to the Crown Prosecution Service, which stated there was insufficient evidence to bring forward charges following the incident in Whitehall.

The police officer allegedly used "excessive force" outside Wapping High School

Tom Milsom, the associate commissioner for the IPCC, said: “There was substantial public interest in this incident following the circulation of the video footage of a portion of the incident.

“The IPCC has conducted a comprehensive investigation into the matter and subsequently I recommended the officer attend a misconduct meeting to determine if he used excessive force.”

A report of the IPCC investigation will be published following the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings, which are scheduled for November 17.
