A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed for breaching confidentiality after police intelligence, including offenders' personal details, were shared.

Police constable Matthew Sherratt was formally dismissed from the Metropolitan Police without notice on Thursday, July 27, following a Special Case misconduct hearing.

The police constable, who was attached to the North Area Command Unit, faced charges of a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of "Confidentiality" when he recorded and shared a police intelligence briefing with a person not employed by the Metropolitan Police.

"The officer has shared police intelligence including personal details of many offenders that presents immediate risk of compromise to police operations and undermines public trust in the police" said chair assistant commissioner, Mark Rowley.

The panel found the allegation proven and said the officer had breached the standards of professional behaviour in such a way that amounted to gross misconduct.

Chair assistant commissioner, Mark Rowley added: "The officer has recently had training that included instructions on confidentiality of data/information and I therefore determine that dismissal without notice was the only option I felt to be appropriate."
