Armed police foiled an attempted burglary at one of the country’s most exclusive roads.

They captured four men breaking into a flat in Eaton Place, Belgravia in September last year.

Mark William Harding, Rashid Alleyne, Gavin James and Peter John Costello are all now behind bars after they were sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on February 22.

Harding, 45 and from Worcesters Avenue in Enfield, also admitted to handling hair extensions worth £100,000 which had been stolen in a burglary just days before the Belgravia raid in the Hanger Lane area of Ealing .

They were caught after officers from the Metropolitan Police ’s Special Project Team discovered the four men’s nefarious plan.

They arrested the gang as they entered the block of flats through the communal door on September 22.

They were charged and at a court hearing on December 19 pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary.

Harding was jailed for four years and four months, 24-year-old Alleyne from Crusoe Road in Mitcham was sentenced to three years and four months, 36-year-old James from Glastonbury Road, was handed a two year sentence and 34-yer-old Costello from Wentworth Court in Maldon Road, Wallington was sentenced to two years and eight months.
