A hugely anticipated meeting to discuss ownership and proposals for light installation on a footbridge near Strand-on-the-Green is due to be held on Wednesday (April 8).

A campaign, led by Lynn Emm of Ernest Gardens in Chiswick, urged Hounslow Council and Network Rail to take responsibility for public safety on the crossing between Deans Close and Herbert Gardens.

However, despite both claiming no duty to its residents for the upkeep of the bridge, the local authority has managed to schedule a meeting between Hounslow Highways and Network Rail to find out about ownership and the proposal.

Richard Hamilton, council officer for regeneration, economic development & environment, hopes the two sides can agree a plan to implement the light installation but said it is unlikely for any final decisions to be made at this stage.

Previously the meeting was arranged for mid-March but never went ahead.

Councillor for Chiswick Riverside ward, Paul Lynch, said he and his fellow councillors support the project for a bridge lit footpath and hope the meeting brings about positive results.

Ms Emm said: "We are all hoping, firstly, that the meeting scheduled for April 8 will actually take place and secondly, that it results in a positive outcome .

"We are all ready to keep the pressure on until we have achieved our objective and we are very glad to have councillor Paul Lynch and others behind us ."
