London Mayor Boris Johnson got his hands dirty when he helped launch this summer’s biggest ever London-wide clean-up in Hammersmith.

He joined volunteers and school children at the playground on Marcus Garvey Park, off Gorleston Street, on Thursday morning (July 16).

He helped clear away rubbish and paint a colourful wall mural to officially launch the Capital Clean-up.

Between now and mid-September, nearly 3,000 volunteers will be out on the streets of 29 boroughs across the city after being awarded funding by the Mayor of London to clean up high streets and canals, plant new gardens and improve previously neglected areas of the city.
