Police have charged a man with murder after a man suffered a fatal stab wound on a bus in Marylebone.

John Edward Doherty, from Fulham, is also charged with two counts of possession of an offensive weapon, and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday (May 1).

It follows the death the of 48-year-old Archie Sheppard from Neasden, who was found on the route 189 bus travelling from Brent Cross shopping centre to Marble Arch shortly after midnight on Friday (April 28).

He was critically injured on the top deck of the bus. Emergency crews were called to Gloucester Place near the junction with Dorset Square at around 12.10am but paramedics were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem was due to take place on Saturday (April 29).

Doherty, 38, is from Clem Atlee Estate.

Police have previously said the victim boarded the bus at Brent Cross bus station just before 11.15pm on Thursday (April 27).
