A blue badge cheat has been fined more than £500 after being caught misusing a parking space daily.

Vardan Sauratyan, of Farrier Road, Northolt , used the badge which is issued to a disabled person to park his car in a resident bay while he worked on a market stall in Chiswick.

Hounslow Council's fraud team were alerted to the misuse and contacted the holder of badge who told council officers she was not at the location where the blue badge was being used.

Police were called to the location and Mr Sauratyan admitted to using the badge without the holder being present.

After being caught red-handed the 67-year-old went to the badge holder's home, collected her and returned to his vehicle.

He pleaded guilty to the fraudulent use of a blue badge and was fined a total of £535 - made up of a £200 fine, £305 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

A blue badge is issued to a disabled person with severe mobility problems and allows them to park closer to shops.

It is not issued to a vehicle and means if the badge holder is not present it cannot be used.

The council's fraud team can confiscate blue badges and anyone found misusing one can be questioned by police and further lead to prosecution.
