A man has been taken to hospital after he was twice tasered by police before being shot.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Claremont Road, West Kilburn, where a man was believed to be in possession of a knife at around 2.45am on Thursday (October 8).

Brent police attempted to detain the man but he ran off and was followed to Kilburn Lane where officers discharged a stun gun, with no effect.

Firearms officers joined in pursuit of the man, again a stun gun was discharged but once again was not effective.

The man was then shot by police.

A Met spokesman said: "Officers attempted to detain the man but he made off and was followed to Kilburn Lane.

"Officers discharged a Taser but with no apparent effect on the man.

"Firearms officers attended in support of local officers and a Taser was discharged, again with no apparent effect.

"The man was then shot by police.

"He has been taken to a central London hospital for treatment."

There were no reports of any other injuries.

The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.
